PIERCING AFTERCARE

What's normal? Initially some bleeding, localised swelling, tenderness and discolour around your piercing. Also you will see some discharge and some crust on your piercing (don't pick it!) What do I have to do? •Wash your hands thoroughly prior to cleaning or touching your piercing for any reason. •Wash your piercing with antibacterial soap using runny water, cotton buds or cotton pads. •Once the area is completely clean, apply a cotton pad soaked with saline water and leave it on your piercing for a minute (both sides) •Repeat this process 2/3 times a day for 2/3 weeks. What do I have to avoid?Rotating the jewellery through the piercing. Moving it gently back and forth will allow you to clean the jewel in its whole length and that's all you need. •Using harsh chemicals. Using products like alcohol is going to be counter productive and will slow down the healing process. •Sleeping on your fresh piercing. This can be very irritating for your piercing and can cause some annoying consequences. If you prefer to sleep on your side, you might find helpful a travel pillow and positioning your ear in the gap of the pillow. •Swimming and bathing. Swimming pools, lakes and so on are full of bacteria and they'll get very easily into your piercing.

•Changing your piercing too early. Your piercing might look healed on the outside but doesn't mean it's ready to be changed.

Always make sure that the clothes touching your piercing are clean and that there's no texture where the jewel might be caught. Your piercing might seem healed before its healing time its completed. This is because the piercing heals from the outside inwards. Do not stop cleaning your piercing after a few days just because seems healed.
